In the Tradition of Miss Matty’s Tea Shop

In the Tradition of Miss Matty’s Tea Shop

Ah taking afternoon tea, that quintessentially English tradition. Well here at The Knutsford Hub we love it! Do you say scon(e) or scone? Well of course, the jury’s out on that one. This week I’ve been finding out where to eat afternoon tea in Knutsford (what a terrible gig that was) and unsurprisingly, one of the most chocolate-boxy, English market towns (yes Knutsford) does more than cater for this special treat.

Afternoon Tea in Knutsford, CheshireStarting at The Belle Epoque, this ultra-chic restaurant and hotel in the heart of Knutsford is a perfect setting for afternoon tea. A recent Trip Advisor reviewer said “I went with my mum and she had a lovely time. The food was very fresh and tasteful. There was enough for a treat and the cakes were delicious. The scones were still warm and that was a very nice touch”.

Just over the road from The Belle Epoque is the charming Victoriana Vintage Tea Room. I know first hand that their cakes are delicious and freshly made in-house and they make a good cup of tea. This tea-room has the tranquility of the old-world, and I love going here, and sometimes take the kids for a treat.

Down the road, the hidden gem which is The Courtyard Coffee House. This lovely cafe serves great scones and cakes for a great price, all with a bit of history as you’re surrounded by penny farthings on the walls. I remember my mum took me here in the early 90s to celebrate passing my A-Levels. I’ll always be fond!

The very authentic Cha Bar Tea Room on Princess Street is also a fantastic place to drink a proper cup of tea (their speciality of course) and afternoon tea, with traditional cream teas. The position of this cafe is perfect for people watching, in the Summer the cute chairs and tables come out. Sheer British bliss!

If you’d like a country setting for your afternoon tea, then The Mere Resort & Spa will appeal. After all, it is nice to look out on green and pleasant land when sipping tea, don’t you think?

You see, here in Knutsford we’re truly spoilt for choice. Each establishment selling afternoon tea in Knutsford is unique and characterful, but most importantly authentic. We sure know how to make a good cup of tea here, and well the scon(e)s ………. ahem, scones!
