Over the last 12 years Moss Wood has been painstakingly and lovingly restored to become one of the most spectacular homes in Cheshire. The same level of care and attention has been lavished on The Stables and The Summerhouse, which are available for both business and holiday lets. Moss Wood is also the ideal venue for your corporate event: whether you're looking to impress your clients or motivate your staff, Moss Wood is the perfect place to bring them. Located right in the heart of Cheshire, little more than five minutes from the M6, Moss Wood is within easy driving distance of Manchester, Liverpool and all the local attractions and businesses. But if you're not rushing off somewhere, relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Moss Wood. The gardens contain some of the rarest trees in the UK outside Kew Gardens and apart from the worst months of the winter, there are always flowers and shrubs in bloom.

A HISTORY OF MOSS WOOD

Moss Wood was built in 1934 by William Bromley Mason, a Canadian bachelor who had been a tea planter in East Africa, you can still see his initials WBM carved into the wall above the site of the original wood burner. William had the house designed and built on the theme of an East African tea plantation, and lived there until August 1949. The house was built 'upside down' with the living quarters upstairs, and the servants downstairs. Our Canadian bachelor lived at Moss Wood throughout the Second World War, before the house was put up for auction on Thursday 14th July 1949: the deeds show that it was then transferred to Mrs Isabella Crossfield on August 4th. Mrs Crossfield lived in the house with her husband Eric, again, not much is known about them, although a member of the local church did suggest that Mr Crossfield was a diamond dealer from Manchester.
