Car parking review by Cheshire East

As many of you are aware it was announced this week Cheshire East are undertaking a borough-wide parking review.

The consultation started yesterday (20th September). The full details can be accessed here: CEC CAR PARK REVIEW

For Knutsford, CEC are proposing changes to on street parking to 30 minutes and no return within 2 hours in the following roads:

Canute Place
Church Hill
Drury Lane
Egerton Square
Green Street
Hillside Road
King Street
Princess Street
Ruskin Court
Tatton Street

Moorside – 1 hour and no return within 1 hour.

There is a “statement of reasons” document outlining why the changes are proposed for both on/off street parking. For on-street it says:

The changes to the permitted length of stay on-street has the potential to encourage greater use of car parks. This has the potential to reduce the volume of parked traffic on town centre streets and improve the safety of the pedestrian and cyclist environment.
On-street parking places subject to proposals are predominantly located in the centre of each town. Discouraging travel by car into the heart of the town centre would help to improve air quality and environment for all pedestrians and cyclists in line with the adopted Corporate Plan (2021 – 2025), Local Transport Plan, Town Centre Vitality Plans and Carbon Neutral Action Plan.If you wish to object you should email carparksreview2023@cheshireeast.gov.uk no later than Monday 6th November.

This review will be on the agenda at the next Town Centre Management meeting on Monday 2nd October at 7.30pm. The meeting takes place at the Council Offices and you can attend in person or online. The online link will be on Knutsford Town Council’s webpage in due course alongside the relevant reports.
